Sushi Express: Quick way to fix your cravings

img_6957We like sushi. While the freshest sashimi is found in Sakuraya which I will cover in another time, sometimes you just need a quick fix. A quick, convenient sushi place near our place is Sushi Express in Seletar Mall. [33 Sengkang West Ave, Fernvale LRT]

img_6958This was the view from the door. People just sit around the food. We queued for about 20 minutes and this was 6 pm on a weekend. This place is crowded! But it does say something about its value.

So you’re brought to your seat and you basically help yourself to whatever that appears on the conveyor belt in front of you. Every plate costs $1.50. Easy system, easy to monitor how much to pay.

The thing about the belt system is that sometimes the good stuff doesn’t get to you. And you can speak to the waiter and they’ll top it up for you pretty quickly! Some of the plates are good value, some are not. Here are some of the ones we would order without fail.

Salmon with spring onion. Seriously, I never thought they’ll go well together. But the spring onion taste complements the sweetness of the salmon and it is happiness exploding within your mouth as you munch on it! Well worth every cent. First thing I order if I don’t see it on the belt.

Raw scallops have a special place in my heart. The taste of the sea, the crunchiness of fresh scallops and the vinegar of the rice seems to be a super good combination. I usually wipe out 2-3 plates of this alone.

The miso soup has to be ordered from the waiter. It’s also 1.50, but you get salmon, seaweed and tofu in a miso based soup. This is umami and comforting at the same time.

Of course there are other dishes which might appeal to your tastes. There are over 30 types of sushi if I’m not wrong. So, if you’re in need of a quick fix with good quality sushi, give Sushi Express a go. This is worth 3.75/5 stars!
